Plenty of good printers get sold on when their owners upgrade, and many have years of printing left. A listing rarely says how many hours are on it, how worn the nozzle and sheet are, whether the seller has removed it from their account or how it’ll be packed. Each page covers one model, with its story, what wears out, what to check and the eBay listings we’d buy.
Most people shop by model name. Tap one to go straight to its page, or read how to check a used 3D printer first.

Often, yes. Most of what wears out on a printer is sold separately, including nozzles, build sheets, belts and, on resin printers, the screen and release film. Makers like Prusa, Bambu Lab, Creality and Elegoo sell those parts for current models, and Prusa sells upgrade kits that bring older printers up to date. The risks are a printer that's been worked hard, one that's missing parts, and one still tied to the seller's account. Ask for a recent print, the print-time screen if it has one, and a factory reset before it ships.
Some printers record it. Prusa's MK4, MK4S, MINI+ and XL show total print time under Info, then Print Statistics, and the MK3S+ under Statistics. The Bambu Lab X1 series shows device usage time under Settings, then Device and Serial Number. The Prusa SL1S even records the exposure time of its screen. Many others, including Bambu's P1 and A1 series, don't document a counter, so ask the seller and judge from the nozzle, the sheet and a recent print. A full factory reset wipes Prusa's statistics, so a low number isn't proof on its own.
Yes. In early 2024 Bambu Lab recalled every A1 because the heatbed cable could be damaged by bending and could short or spark. The US recall, CPSC number 24-264 from June 2024, covered about 12,800 printers sold from December 2023 to January 2024, and Bambu offered a refund or a free heatbed and cable. Bambu said the A1 mini wasn't affected. If you're buying an early A1, ask for proof the heatbed and cable were replaced.
Remove it from their account and pack it the way the maker does. Bambu Lab says a factory reset removes the owner's account, and its packing guides screw the X1 and P1 heatbed down on foam. Prusa's firmware has an Ownership transfer reset that clears network and Prusa Connect settings but keeps the statistics. Resin printers should travel empty, with the vat and build plate off. Prusa's SL1S guide even lays cardboard over the screen. The original box and foam make a big difference.
Filament, unless you mainly want miniatures or jewelry. A filament printer needs little more than a spool and a clean sheet, and it makes strong parts in PLA, PETG and more. Resin prints far finer detail, but it needs nitrile gloves, eye protection, ventilation and an isopropyl alcohol wash for every print, and its screen and release film wear out. Makers rate their mono resin screens at about 2,000 hours, and they sell replacements for most models.
Yes, which makes older Prusas good used buys. Prusa sells kits that upgrade an MK3S+ to an MK3.5S, MK3.9S or MK4S, an MK4 to an MK4S, a MINI to a MINI+ and an XL to the XL+, and it sells MK3-series spares like the hotend, Bondtech gears and SuperPINDA. Check what the seller has already fitted, because a converted printer should show the new parts.
