The X1 Carbon is the printer that made Bambu Lab's name. Four former DJI engineers founded the company in Shenzhen in 2020, and in 2022 they shipped an enclosed CoreXY that calibrated itself, printed fast and handled four colors with the AMS. A micro lidar on the toolhead probes the nozzle height, tunes the flow and scans the first layer, with force sensors under the bed as a second check. The hardened steel nozzle means carbon-fiber filaments are fine. It's also unusually easy to judge used. The screen records device usage time, and Bambu documents every maintenance job. Print hours: The X1 series records it. Settings, then Device and Serial Number, shows the device usage time next to the serial, which is the closest thing this printer has to an odometer.
Hotend and nozzle: It ships with a 0.4 mm hardened steel nozzle, and the box included a spare hotend. A worn or clogged nozzle is fixed by swapping the hotend, which Bambu sells. Ask whether the spare hotend is still in the box.
Bed and levelling: Bambu's micro lidar probes nozzle height, calibrates flow and scans the first layer, and force sensors under the heatbed back it up. The printer came with a textured PEI plate or a Cool Plate, chosen at random, so check which one is in the photos and how worn it is.
Belts, rails and screws: It's a CoreXY with carbon X rods. Bambu says never to grease the carbon rods, only clean them with isopropyl alcohol, and to grease the Z lead screws every three months. Grease on the carbon rods is a red flag, so ask how the seller maintained it.
Firmware and account: In January 2025 Bambu added an authorization system to its firmware, starting with the X series. It gates binding and unbinding, starting prints and third-party control, while SD-card printing is exempt, and LAN Only and Developer Mode are options. Ask which firmware it runs. What to check

There's no known X1 Carbon defect, but the maintenance is spelled out. Carbon rods get cleaned and never greased, Z screws get grease, and the extruder gear gets checked. Skip a printer that missed those, or one with a replacement lidar that doesn't match.
