Brand
Ultimaker started in 2011 at ProtoSpace, a makerspace in Utrecht in the Netherlands, where Siert Wijnia ran workshops building RepRap Darwin printers. He founded the company with Martijn Elserman and Erik de Bruijn, and their Ultimaker Original came out in March 2011. The Ultimaker 2 followed in 2013, the Ultimaker 3 in 2016 and the dual-extrusion S5 in 2018, then the S3 in 2019 and the 2+ Connect in 2020. In August 2022 Ultimaker merged with MakerBot, and the company now writes its name UltiMaker. Its S-series printers use swappable print cores, so a nozzle change is a quick swap rather than a repair, and they're managed through UltiMaker Cura and Digital Factory. Ultimaker's own product pages still list the S3, S5, S7 and 2+ Connect, so manuals and support articles are easy to find.
