UltiMaker S3
The S3 is the compact member of UltiMaker's S series, launched in September 2019 as a smaller sibling to the S5. It prints with two swappable print cores, an AA core for the model and a BB core for water-soluble support, so parts with deep overhangs and internal channels can be printed with support you dissolve away afterwards. Changing a nozzle means slotting in a different core, and cores run from 0.25 to 0.8 mm. It prints on heated glass up to 140 °C, levels itself with a capacitive sensor, and joins Wi-Fi or Ethernet for UltiMaker's Cura and Digital Factory. UltiMaker plans these printers for about five years of steady work, so the seller's answer about hours tells you plenty.

Printer check
Hours, hotend, bed and firmware
- Print hours
- UltiMaker's readable documentation doesn't say where the S3 shows its total print time, so ask the seller for the hours and a recent print. For scale, UltiMaker plans S-series printers for about five years at around 1,500 printing hours a year.
- Hotend and nozzle
- It prints with two swappable print cores, an AA core for the model and a BB core for soluble support, both 0.4 mm as shipped. A worn nozzle means a new core rather than a repair. Ask which cores come with it and for a photo of each tip.
- Bed and levelling
- It prints on heated glass and levels itself with a capacitive sensor in the print head. Ask for a photo of the glass. It should be unchipped and clean.
- Belts, rails and screws
- UltiMaker says most S-series maintenance is cleaning, lubricating and adjusting, and it publishes model-specific maintenance schedules. Ask the seller how often it was serviced and for a photo of a recent dual-material print.
- Firmware and account
- It's managed with UltiMaker Cura and Digital Factory over Wi-Fi or Ethernet. The seller should remove it from their Digital Factory account before it ships. UltiMakerCare service plans are tied to the serial number and don't transfer to you.
- Enclosure and add-ons
- UltiMaker sells the PVA Removal Station, Air Manager and Material Station as separate accessories. Check the listing for any it names.
- Spare parts
- UltiMaker sells a maintenance kit and part bundles for the S series, and print cores are sold separately. Check that the cores you need are available before you buy one with missing cores.
- Shipping and packaging
- UltiMaker publishes S-series repacking instructions. Ask the seller to follow them, with the glass plate and cores packed safely, and look for a cracked plate or a knocked print head on arrival.

What to check
