Elegoo Neptune 4 Max
The Neptune 4 Max is for people who print cosplay helmets, terrain boards and big vases. Its bed is 420 mm square with 480 mm of height, far more room than a typical desktop printer, and it runs the same Klipper firmware as the smaller Neptune 4 Pro, with Wi-Fi, a web interface and printing across several machines on your network. Elegoo rates it at up to 500 mm/s, with 250 mm/s as the default. Moving a bed that size takes some engineering, so the Y axis sits on a double profile with two rows of three V-wheels, and Z runs on twin lead screws with twin motors. The bed heats to 85 °C, which covers PLA and PETG comfortably. For big parts in one piece without stepping up to a much pricier machine, this is the one used buyers look for.

- Print hours
- Elegoo doesn't document a total print-time counter we could find. Klipper keeps a print history in its web interface, so ask for a screenshot of it.
- Hotend and nozzle
- A dual-gear direct extruder with 5.2:1 gearing feeds an extended 300 °C hotend. Its high-flow nozzle is proprietary and not shared with the smaller Neptune 4 models, so ask whether spare nozzles come with it.
- Bed and levelling
- The bed is 420 mm square and heats to 85 °C, with a double-sided smooth and textured PEI sheet. An inductive probe taps 121 points, with six-point manual levelling as well. Check both faces of the big sheet in the photos, because it's a big one to replace.
- Belts, rails and screws
- The heavy bed rides on two rows of three V-wheels on a double Y profile, and Z runs on twin lead screws and twin motors. Ask the seller to push the bed by hand. It should roll smoothly with no flat spots or rattle, and worn wheels show as play or black dust on the rail.
- Firmware and account
- It runs Klipper on a quad-core board, with Wi-Fi, LAN and USB and a web interface. It's Elegoo's own form of Klipper, which can't be updated from the main Klipper project. Ask which firmware version it runs and whether the seller changed any settings.
- Spare parts
- We didn't confirm a Neptune 4 Max spares page in Elegoo's store. Check for the 420 mm sheet before you buy, since that's the part you'd most likely need.
- Shipping and packaging
- It's big, and Elegoo publishes no packing guide we could find. Ask for the original box and foam if they kept it, with the sheet off and the gantry held still. A bent frame or a knocked-out wheel is the damage to check for.

Check the listing photos against these lists, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing sheet, add-on or power supply should come off the price.
What to check
One review found buggy firmware that didn't remember the right Z height, so the reviewer set it through Klipper's web interface, and loud homing noises that updates mostly fixed. On a bed this big, also check the V-wheels for play and the sheet for wear.
- 01Wheels: Ask the seller to push the bed back and forth by hand. It should roll smoothly with no rattle or flat-spot bumps.
- 02Print history: Ask for a screenshot of the Klipper print history. It tells you how hard the printer has been worked.
- 03Recent print: Ask for a photo of a large recent print. An even first layer across the whole bed means the 121-point mesh is doing its job.
- 04Sheet: Look at both faces of the 420 mm sheet in the photos. Even texture is good, and bald patches mean an expensive new sheet.
- 05Nozzle: Ask for a close photo of the nozzle tip. Clean and round is good.
- 06Z height: Ask whether the first layer comes out right without adjusting Z each time. Tom's Hardware found the firmware forgot its Z height.
- 07Packing: Ask whether it'll ship in the original box and foam. A printer this big needs the gantry held still in transit.
