Bambu Lab A1
The A1 is Bambu Lab's full-size bed slinger, released in December 2023 with the same 256 mm cube build volume as the CoreXY machines on a much simpler frame. It's full of Bambu's self-calibration. An eddy-current sensor in the hotend feels for the bed, and before each print the A1 sets its Z offset, levels the bed, measures vibration and tunes flow. The hotend comes out with one clip, and with the AMS lite it prints four colors, which is what the A1 Combo bundled. Then there's the recall. In 2024 Bambu recalled every A1 on the market over a heatbed cable that could wear through, and the US recall covered about 12,800 printers. Bambu offered a refund or a new heatbed and cable. Buy one that's had the fix.

Printer check
Hours, hotend, bed and firmware
- Print hours
- There's no documented usage-time counter on the A1, though it does track filament use (Bambu calls it filament odometry). Past jobs in the Bambu app and the seller's rough estimate are what you have to go on.
- Hotend and nozzle
- The hotend pops in and out with one clip, no tools, and ships with a 0.4 mm stainless steel nozzle rated to 300 °C. Bambu rates carbon- and glass-fiber filaments as not recommended on it. Ask whether a spare hotend comes with it.
- Bed and levelling
- An eddy-current sensor in the hotend feels for the bed, probing a 7 x 7 grid, and the A1 calibrates Z offset, levelling, vibration and flow for each print. It came with a textured PEI plate on a 100 °C bed. Check the plate in the photos.
- Belts, rails and screws
- It's a bed slinger, and routine maintenance is belt tension, Y-axis lubrication and manual bed tramming. Ask the seller to push the bed by hand. It should glide smoothly and quietly.
- Firmware and account
- It runs Bambu's firmware with LAN Only and Developer Mode options, and multi-AMS support needs firmware 01.07.00.00 or later. Ask for a factory reset before shipping so the seller's account comes off.
- Enclosure and add-ons
- The A1 Combo bundled the AMS lite, which only works on A-series printers. With Bambu's A Series AMS hub and firmware 01.07.00.00 or later it can run up to four AMS, AMS 2 Pro or AMS HT units instead, but not mixed with an AMS lite.
- Spare parts
- Bambu sells A1 hotends and plates and has guides for the axes, belts and the heatbed. The heatbed and its cable are the parts the 2024 recall replaced.
- Shipping and packaging
- Packing an A1 properly means removing the spool, PTFE tubes, purge wiper, plate and spool holder, folding the screen and unplugging three motor connectors from the cable box. Ask whether the seller has the original box and foam.

Check the listing photos against these lists, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing sheet, add-on or power supply should come off the price.
What to check
In 2024 Bambu recalled all A1 printers because the heatbed cable could be damaged by bending and short or spark. The US recall, CPSC 24-264, covered about 12,800 units sold from December 2023 to January 2024. The fix was a new heatbed and cable or a refund, so an early A1 must have had it.
- 01Recall fix: Ask whether the heatbed and cable were replaced under the 2024 recall, and for the case number or a photo of the new cable. An early A1 without the fix shouldn't be used.
- 02Serial: Ask for a photo of the serial sticker on the back. The US recall notice says A1 serials have the letter A as their sixth character.
- 03Recent print: Ask for a photo of a recent print with the first layer up. Even lines mean the eddy-current levelling works.
- 04Plate: Look at the textured PEI plate in the photos. Even texture is good, and bald patches mean a new plate.
- 05Bed motion: Ask the seller to push the bed back and forth by hand. It should glide smoothly with no grinding.
- 06AMS lite: If it's a Combo, check the AMS lite and its stand are in the photos. It only works on A-series printers, so it should stay with the printer.
- 07Account: Ask for a factory reset before shipping. That removes the seller's Bambu account.
