In a bed slinger the build plate slides front to back under the nozzle while the print head moves side to side, the layout of the Prusa i3 and its many descendants. It's a simple, open design that's easy to work on, and it suits PLA, PETG and TPU on a desk. Most bed slingers are open-frame, and Bambu Lab rates ABS and ASA as not recommended on its open A1 for that reason. On a used one, the parts that wear are the Y-axis belt under the bed, the wheels, rods or rails the bed rides on, the nozzle and the build sheet. To test for a slack belt, Prusa suggests printing a circle, which comes out irregular if a belt is loose.
