Bambu Lab P1S
The P1S took most of what made the X1 Carbon good and made it cheaper to own. Bambu Lab released it in July 2023 with the same 256 mm cube CoreXY platform and 500 mm/s top speed, inside a plastic and glass enclosure with an activated-carbon filter, so ABS and ASA print well. It skips the X1's lidar and big screen. You get automatic bed levelling, a small button-driven screen and a basic 720p chamber camera, and that's enough for most people. Add the AMS and it prints four colors, and the P1S Combo bundled one. The nozzle is stainless steel, which matters if you want carbon-fiber filament. For a first fast printer, it's the one used buyers ask for most.

Printer check
Hours, hotend, bed and firmware
- Print hours
- Bambu's P1-series screen guide lists no usage-time counter, so the printer won't tell you its hours. Ask the seller roughly how much it has printed, and whether they can show past jobs in the Bambu app.
- Hotend and nozzle
- It ships with a 0.4 mm stainless steel nozzle on an all-metal 300 °C hotend, and Bambu rates carbon- and glass-fiber filaments as not recommended on it. If the seller printed them, budget for a hardened hotend.
- Bed and levelling
- It came with Bambu's dual-sided textured PEI plate on a 100 °C bed, with automatic bed levelling. Check the plate in the photos for bald or scratched patches.
- Belts, rails and screws
- It's a CoreXY with carbon X rods. They get cleaned with alcohol and never greased, and the Z lead screws want grease every three months, so ask how it was maintained.
- Firmware and account
- LAN Only and Developer Mode are both options in its firmware. A factory reset from Settings removes the seller's account, Bambu says, so ask for one before it ships, and ask which firmware version it's on.
- Enclosure and add-ons
- The enclosure is a plastic and glass shell with an activated-carbon filter, so ABS and ASA are on Bambu's ideal list. The P1S Combo bundled the AMS, and later an AMS 2 Pro Combo was sold. The AMS lite doesn't fit it.
- Spare parts
- Bambu's wiki has replacement guides for the P1 hotend, belts, heatbed, PTFE tubes and camera, and Bambu sells nozzles and hotends separately.
- Shipping and packaging
- For shipping, the bed goes down onto foam and is fixed with three screws, the toolhead is protected, and the AMS travels in its own box. Ask whether the original box, foam and screws come with it.

Check the listing photos against these lists, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing sheet, add-on or power supply should come off the price.
What to check
No P1S-specific defect is on record. With no hours counter, wear shows in the nozzle, the plate and the carbon rods, and the stainless nozzle wears quickly on abrasive filaments.
- 01Recent print: Ask for a photo of a recent print with the first layer up. Even lines with no gaps mean levelling and extrusion are fine.
- 02Abrasive filament: Ask whether it printed carbon- or glass-fiber filament. The stock stainless nozzle isn't meant for them, so a yes means a new hotend soon.
- 03Plate: Look at the textured PEI plate in the photos. Even texture is good, and bald or scratched patches mean a new plate.
- 04Carbon rods: Ask whether the carbon rods were ever greased. Bambu says alcohol only, so clean, dry rods are right.
- 05AMS: If it's a Combo, check the AMS and its cables are in the photos. Ask the seller to show it loading a spool.
- 06Account: Ask the seller to factory reset it from Settings before shipping. Bambu says that removes their account.
- 07Packing: Ask whether it'll ship with the heatbed screwed down on its foam. A loose bed is the likely shipping damage.

There's no hours count, so ask to see past jobs in the Bambu app, and whether carbon- or glass-fiber filament went through the stainless nozzle. Check the textured plate for bald patches. For four colors, the AMS Combo at $472 is worth paying up for, and the $362 Combo marked READ costs less if its description checks out.
