Josef Průša has been refining the i3 since 2012, and the MK4S of August 2024 is the newest of the line. It keeps the MK4's 250 x 210 x 220 mm bed-slinger layout and its Nextruder, a direct-drive extruder with a load cell that feels the bed, so there's no first-layer fiddling. The S is about cooling. Prusa redesigned it around a high-performance turbine that blows all the way around the nozzle, and made a high-flow CHT nozzle standard. It's open source, it takes the MMU3 for multi-material, and it keeps its own statistics, print time included, in the menus. Prusa sells nearly every part, so even a well-used MK4S is a fair buy.

No MK4S defect turns up in Prusa's documentation, so judge it on the wear parts. The brass nozzle wears on abrasive filaments, sheets lose their texture, and belts loosen over time.

Buying guide
New MK4S kits on eBay run $815 to $1,369, so a used printer should bring extras or cost less. The used one with an MMU3 and an enclosure at $1,200 does both, inside the $850 to $1,375 band. Ask for LCD Menu, Info, Print Statistics and the Ownership transfer reset. Prusa sells nearly every spare, so a well-used one is still a fair buy, but skip the zero-feedback MMU3 bundles at $600 and $650.
